Success Software is a supported derivative of the new S Package developedat AT&T Bell Labs. The primary goal of the S environment is good dataanalysis encouraging the iterative, interactive style of data analysis.In this way, S is unlike most statistical "packages."The S interactive environment for data analysis and graphics includes twoprimary components: a language and a support system. The S high-levelexpression-based language provides interactive functionality for simpleand complex computations, for management and structuring of data, and forsophisticated custom graphics on a wide variety of graphics devices. Thesupport system provides self-documentation and the capability of addingnew functions and graphics device drivers to the language.S is easy-to-use, yet powerful, and useful in areas such as analyticalcomputing, graphics, and data analysis. S was created in a statisticsresearch organization and thus contains many recently developedstatistical routines, along with facilities that allow users to extendthe system to new methods and application areas.
